Know the Directions

Know the Directions

Before you can demarcate your property for internal or external Feng Shui, one of the fundamentals of Feng Shui application is to know how to take a direction.

It's nothing complicated, really. You just need to be able to identify the eight cardinal directions namely, North, South, East, West, Northeast, Northwest, Southeast and Southwest, with reference to the property you are assessing.

Note that each property's orientation differs so you need to identify these directions in accordance to the property you are evaluating.

First thing you need is a simple compass. Unless you prefer something more sophisticated, you can use a Feng Shui Luo Pan or perhaps, a Mini Feng Shui Compass (both items are available at the Mastery Academy online store).

It's important to know the directions because it brings you information on the Where, How and When the problems will arise. With this knowledge, you'll be able to avoid or remedy the problem area easily.

So. How do you take a direction?

The first step is to observe the façade of the property; observe the direction the property was designed to face. Common mistake happens when it was assumed that the Main Door is used as the reference point. But this is not necessarily so as the Main Door is, sometimes, not located on the façade of the property. So it's better to look at the property's façade instead, just to be safe.

Once you have determined where the property faces, stand at the Central Palace - that's a Feng Shui term for the center of the façade - look out and see what direction the compass yields. That direction gives you the Facing Direction of the property. Only then, you can start demarcating the directions and palaces for Feng Shui evaluation.

That's a start to Feng Shui application by knowing the directions. Learn more about it and how you can sharpen your techniques through our live courses. Can't make it to a live course? No problem. You can learn it from the comfort of your own home with Joey Yap's Feng Shui Mastery HomeStudy Course for Modules 1 and 2.
