Qi Men Dun Jia (QMDJ), an ancient tool for tapping into the inner workings of the universe, has seen a rise of interest in recent years. Loosely translated as ‘mysterious doors escaping technique’, QMDJ has been used for thousands of years by only a select few. It has helped generals and armies win seemingly impossible battles just by identifying the right place and time to attack the enemy. If the reading of the QMDJ chart indicates a failure, a new plan will be devised. In this way, the generals and armies will be guaranteed victory, provided they implement their findings in a strategic manner. “QMDJ is about doing the right thing at the right time that produces the right outcome,” said Dato’ Joey Yap, founder of the Mastery Academy of Chinese Metaphysics and Chief Consultant of Joey Yap Consulting Group. According to Yap, QMDJ has been viewed as difficult to use as plotting the charts requires referencing multiple calendar systems. “Qi Men Dun Jia is a time-based system. The problem is, nobody can agree on the correct calendar system. They each have different ways of calculating the calendar and different people plot the charts differently.”

Treasure amid Adversity

It wasn’t until 2004 when Yap used the system for the very first time. He went through an extremely difficult time when his business partnerships did not work out well. In that time of adversity, he learned the system and plotted the charts manually. “It took me at least 15 to 20 minutes because I was referencing all those calendars. It was cumbersome but it really worked,” said Yap. Armed with the valuable insight gained from the charts, he rebooted his career and things began to look up.

Four years later, Yap was hit a second time with a series of difficulties. “I knew I had to reboot once again. That was when I thought of the QMDJ system and how it helped me before. So I plotted the charts and studied them to see what was going on,” he said. “It helped me get my act together and I restructured my entire organisation.” His career took off at a record pace and business is still growing strong today. “Prior to that I was doing alright, but after 2008, business was booming beyond expectation. I witnessed first-hand how good this system is for conquering business problems and obstacles that came along the way. I realised that I needed to teach this to others. I just need to find a way to make it less cumbersome for them to use it.”

At the Click of a Button

Yap invested in a software system to unify the calendar systems and plot the charts at the click of a button. “It took me a couple of years to develop the software and now, people do not have to struggle with plotting the charts on their own. They can concentrate on learning how to use the charts.” With the creation of the system, his client list grew bigger. “People generally find QMDJ useful and easy to apply. By their nature, Feng Shui and Bazi take a lot of time to implement - Feng Shui requires restructuring the house or moving furniture, while Bazi involves changing their personalities. In the case of QMDJ, I just need to tell them if what they are planning to do at that particular moment in time will be favourable to them - that’s easy to do.”

The best thing about Yap’s QMDJ system is that one does not need to know the basics of Chinese metaphysics to use it. “In the past, you do need that knowledge to plot the charts. Today, all you need to know is what you want and use QMDJ to achieve it. For example, you don’t need to know how to make an iPhone in order to use it. Similarly, I want to present metaphysics that way. You don’t need to know how it is ‘made’. Let me deal with that so that you can focus on using it.”

The eight doors in QMDJ change positions every two hours, according to Yap. However, just like the stock market charts, you only need to look at the QMDJ charts when you need information. “In the stock market, the hourly trend is useful when you are trading and the yearly trend is when you are looking for the overall performance of the company. QMDJ has those charts as well and gives the forecast of the fluctuations of energy patterns. We look for indicators in the positions where the chart can change. Then we can plan on what to do. Sometimes keeping quiet is the best strategy for that moment. Sometimes it’s being the one who talks the most. The doors will tell you the best thing to do in order to win.”

Case Study: A Pitch in Time

In a real life example from Dato’ Joey Yap’s book ‘Qi Men Sun Tzu Warcraft’, a client, Mr Yeoh, wanted a forecast of a business meeting where he was going to pitch for major project. Yeoh had staked everything he had on the pitch and if he was not awarded the contract, his firm would close. He was also running up against another competitor. Yeoh wanted to know if the day and time chosen would be in his favour or if he should reschedule it to improve his odds.

Yap plotted the charts (Charts 1 & 2), based on the time that Yeoh approached him. From the charts, he deduced that Yeoh had the advantage of leadership abilities. There were also many other signs indicating that Yeoh can expect a positive outcome when he makes his pitch. He would also be able to successfully fulfil his promises and produce great results to his client. His competitor, on the other hand, will be fighting against the tide and may clash with the potential client’s temperament and is not likely to win the contract. True enough, Yeoh landed the gig as was predicted by the charts.
