In classical Feng Shui, the aspect of time is just as crucial as the quality of your external land formations. 'Time' in Feng Shui can be divided into long-term and short-term, and usually the idea of 'long' can span across a few generations! To achieve this kind of long-lasting positive Feng Shui effects, however, would require locating a spot with superior mountain and water formations.
Nowadays, most Feng Shui assessments centre on short- or mid-term effects. Imagine a business premise having to wait 10 years for good Feng Shui! Definitely not cost-effective or wise. Hence, the importance of understanding the yearly cycles of Qi flows - which is one of the quickest ways to start your journey to positive Feng Shui.
This year, for example, the positive sectors are in the East, Northwest and West. What you need is a compass to determine these locations within your property. Measured from the approximate centre of your house and note if your main door is located in one of the positive sectors. For example, if your door falls within the east sector, then this would be a favourable year for you - especially when it comes to career advancement and recognition.
If you do not have an entrance available at any of the three positive sectors, try spending more time in these sectors to be affected by the good energy there. Human activity 'activates' the potential of these sectors. For example, if you have a bedroom in the West sector, it will be a positive room to use for this year. The West sector is the 'Nobleman' sector which brings you opportunities to meet helpful people who can guide you or lend you a hand - or simply meeting more good clients!
Conversely, the most negative sector for 2010 is the Southwest sector. So ensure that no renovation work is done here as this activates the negative Qi. Using a Southwest door also indicates a more challenging year ahead. If there is another door available, do use it. Similarly, sleeping in a Southwest room brings about weaker health and may make you more prone to accidents. So the elderly folk and expecting mothers should relocate to another room.
When you factor in the external land conditions like mountain and water, road junctions and neighboring buildings, house shape and occupants, you will find that the quality and intensity of each of the annual Qi flow differ for different areas.
Indeed, no two properties are ever the same in Feng Shui. For example, if you have a hill outside to the West sector, that will greatly amplify the power of the Nobleman where you will get to meet helpful people, including those from the upper society or people with great authority and influence. Having a highway externally to the West, however, diminishes these positive effects.
In the year 2011, the four positive sectors are the Southeast, Northwest, Northeast (the Nobleman sector is here), and West. The danger zone for next year would be the East sector - again, no renovation here. Having this information at hand, you can start planning your next six months of year 2010 and then start preparing for year 2011!
