Bedroom Feng Shui
Source : Creative Home (July Issue)
Date : 1 Jul 2014
by Dato Joey Yap

The bedroom is a rather important spot when it comes to providing a peaceful environment for healthy sleeping. Here, Dato' Joey Yap shares a few pointers about creating good bedroom Feng Shui.

For Yang House Feng Shui, the bedroom is one of the three most important sectors after the kitchen and the main door. A good bedroom form can enhance our positive energy and act as a conducive environment to boost our health. To optimise good flow of Qi for the bedroom, here are a few things to consider, from a Feng Shui point of view:

Shape of the bedroom: As mentioned in the previous article, square and rectangular shapes are some of the highly preferred choices for your bedroom. We can of course, choose irregular shapes like circular, triangular, T-shape, or even dumbbell shape for our bedroom - but as these irregular designs create an imbalanced Qi flow, they are not encouraged.

Bed against a solid wall: Sleeping is a Yin activity and thus, it needs a Yin feature like the wall - solid and immobile - to act as a support to the bed. Placing the bed at a “Yang” sector, on the other hand, will create an imbalanced Qi flow and this will influence our sleeping behaviour and subsequently our health, too.

Favourable directions: Some of us may be driven to tap into a favourable direction at every corner of our house - including our bedrooms. If the favourable direction causes the bed to be positioned at an angle where its headboard is against a corner, beware as bigger headache and more problems could be expected by the occupants. While they may have achieved their objectives in tapping the favourable direction, they have also at the same time, created Sha Qi that points directly to their head.

Bed with windows at the back: Windows belong to the Yang features. As such, placing the headboard of the bed against the window can inadvertently create an imbalanced flow of Qi to the entire room. At the same time, strong winds can seep through the window and hits your head as you sleep, causing you sleepless nights and affected health, so think twice about putting your bed in such position. However, you can solve this problems by using thick curtains and ensure windows are tightly closed when you are sleeping.

Feet pointing to the room door

If your feet are pointing towards the room door, the Qi will rush in through the door and crashes into your bed directly, causing restless night - so avoid this position. The solution is fairly simple: just move the bed to a position where it is not in direct alignment with the bedroom door.
